Quality & Inspection for Aluminum Die Cast Parts
Reliable aluminum die cast parts depend on more than appearance. Depending on the application, a component may also need to meet requirements for dimensions, material composition, internal quality, sealing, surface finish, or cleanliness.
At Yongzhu Casting, quality control is considered throughout the production process, from material and sample review to machining and final inspection. Inspection requirements are determined according to the part drawing, application, and project agreement.

Quality Control Throughout Production
Our quality control approach covers the main stages of a custom aluminum die casting project. The inspection scope and frequency are determined by the requirements of each part.
Material Identification
Material identification helps confirm that the alloy used for a project matches the specified material requirements. Material records or certificates may be reviewed as part of the project documentation.
Sample Inspection
After tooling and trial production, sample parts can be inspected against the drawing. Dimensional, appearance, and assembly features can be reviewed before moving forward with production.
In-Process Inspection
During production, inspection focuses on the features relevant to the part and manufacturing process. These may include casting appearance, dimensions, machining features, and surface condition.
Final Inspection
Before delivery, finished parts are checked against the agreed requirements. Depending on the project, final inspection may include dimensional checks, visual inspection, part identification, and packaging review.
Inspection and Testing Methods
Different inspection methods provide different types of information. Some are commonly used for routine quality control, while others are selected for specific performance or documentation requirements.
The methods below represent inspection and testing options relevant to aluminum die cast parts. Not every method is required for every component.
Visual Inspection
Visual inspection evaluates the appearance and surface condition of a part. It can help identify visible issues such as flash, surface marks, cracks, or coating defects.
Dimensional Inspection
Dimensional inspection checks whether important features meet the drawing requirements. It is commonly used for mounting holes, bearing locations, sealing surfaces, machined faces, and other assembly features. Measuring tools and coordinate measuring machines, or CMMs, can be used according to the features being inspected.
Spectral Testing
Spectral testing is used to analyze the chemical composition of metal materials. It can help verify whether the elements in an alloy are consistent with the specified material grade.
X-Ray Testing
X-ray testing is a non-destructive method used to examine the internal condition of a casting. It can help identify internal features such as porosity or shrinkage in selected areas.
CT Testing
Industrial CT testing produces three-dimensional images of a part’s internal structure. It may be considered when a project requires a more detailed assessment of internal features or complex geometry.
Leak Testing
Leak testing is used for parts with sealing requirements, such as housings or components that contain air or liquid. The test helps evaluate whether a part meets the agreed leakage requirement.
Salt Spray Testing
Salt spray testing is used to assess the corrosion resistance of materials or surface treatments under controlled test conditions. It may be relevant to components used in outdoor, humid, or other demanding environments.
Tensile Testing
Tensile testing evaluates the mechanical properties of a material by applying force to a test specimen. It may be used when a project has specific material performance requirements.
Hardness Testing
Hardness testing measures a material’s resistance to indentation. It can be used as one of the checks for material condition or consistency.
Cleanliness Testing
Cleanliness testing evaluates the presence of residual particles or contamination on a component. It may be relevant to parts used in fluid systems or assemblies with specific cleanliness requirements.
Coating Thickness Inspection
Coating thickness inspection checks the thickness of an applied surface treatment. It may be used for parts with requirements for protective or decorative coatings.
Quality Requirements for Different Applications
The inspection requirements for aluminum die cast parts vary according to their function and operating environment.
Automotive Components
Automotive parts may require particular attention to dimensions, material consistency, assembly features, and project documentation. Additional requirements depend on the component and customer specifications.
Industrial Machinery Parts
Housings, brackets, covers, and other industrial components may require dimensional checks, surface inspection, or functional testing according to their use.
Electrical and Lighting Components
Electrical enclosures and lighting parts may have requirements for mounting features, sealing surfaces, appearance, or surface protection.
Medical Equipment Components
Components used in medical equipment may have specific dimensional, surface, cleanliness, or documentation requirements, depending on the application.
Inspection Records and Quality Documentation
Quality documentation helps communicate the inspection results for a project. Depending on the agreed scope, documents may include:
- Material certificates
- Dimensional inspection reports
- CMM reports
- Sample inspection records
- Test reports
- Quality management system certificates
The required documents and their scope are confirmed according to the project requirements.
Testing Scope and Project Agreement
Inspection and testing requirements are determined for each project. The applicable methods, inspection scope, documentation, and any additional testing charges are discussed and confirmed during quotation and order review.
Depending on the project, testing may be carried out internally or arranged with an external testing provider, subject to confirmation.
