Not every item requires a design change. The result may be a clearer tolerance, a moved tool mark or an added machining step. The goal is to retain function while avoiding preventable risk.
What Should Buyers Receive After a DFM Review?
“Drawing OK” is not enough. DFM decisions should be traceable through an annotated drawing, marked PDF, issue list, meeting record or confirmed email.
A useful review record should show:
- comments that have been accepted, rejected or left open;
- the reason for each proposed change;
- the effect of an unresolved point on quality, cost or lead time;
- the planned parting direction, sliders and ejection approach;
- cast features versus CNC-machined features;
- cosmetic areas and acceptable gate, parting or ejector locations;
- the final 2D and 3D revision used for tooling.
If DFM changes tooling, machining or inspection, the quote and schedule may change. Confirm the effect before moving forward.
How to Approve DFM and Release Tooling
DFM ends with a controlled release. Confirm matching 2D and 3D revisions, material, key dimensions, machining, cosmetic faces, tests and accepted deviations. Close or accept open issues in writing.
Next, review the die casting tooling plan. Yongzhu submits a 2D tool layout for approval before steel cutting. The record should define when tooling starts.
After release, each drawing change needs an impact review covering completed steel work, affected tool areas, machining, inspection, cost and timing. Work should continue only after the revised scope is accepted. This prevents the mold shop from building to an obsolete file.
